Scent notes
What does oud smell like in perfume
Oud in perfume points toward a woody direction that may feel dark, resinous, smoky or otherwise complex. Oud styles vary widely, and the word in a note list does not prove that a perfume contains natural agarwood oil.
A HUME Fragrance buying guide

Expect different interpretations
A smooth wood-led perfume can present oud differently from a rose-and-incense composition. Do not assume one strong example represents every fragrance using the name.
Separate sourcing from smell
A note describes the intended impression. Natural material content, origin or extraction needs specific documentation rather than an assumption based on the oud label.
Test the surrounding character
Record whether you enjoy the woods, smoke, warmth or floral support. What feels appealing may be the full structure rather than oud considered on its own.
Try this before you buy
Compare a wood-and-spice direction with a rose-and-incense direction and note what you perceive as oud-like.
