Getting started
How to start a perfume collection
Build a perfume collection around differences you can recognize and enjoy. Start with one frequently worn favorite, explore contrasting samples and add bottles only when they serve a purpose beyond increasing the count.

Give each bottle a role
You might begin with everyday wear, then explore something for quieter evenings or special occasions. A role is a reason to use a perfume, not a requirement to fill every imaginable category.
Keep exploration separate from ownership
A sample can satisfy curiosity without becoming a full-bottle purchase. Record what you enjoyed and what you would change. Over time that record is a better guide than a large wish list assembled from launch announcements.
Review before expanding
Ask which bottles you actually use and which you bought for the idea of owning them. Avoid buying duplicates of similar styles until you understand the differences. Your collection can remain small and still cover a wide range of enjoyment.
Try this before you buy
Create three lists: wear often, want to sample, and do not need as a full bottle.
