Getting started
Why do I dislike popular perfumes
Popularity does not make a perfume a personal match. You may dislike its sweetness, texture, particular notes or presence even when other people enjoy those exact qualities. Your reaction is useful preference information, not a mistake.
A HUME Fragrance buying guide

Name the part that bothers you
Describe what you notice rather than rejecting an entire category. A fragrance might feel too sugary, sharp, smoky or dense. Recognizing that quality makes your next shortlist more focused than simply choosing a less famous perfume.
Separate expectation from experience
A highly praised fragrance can create an expectation that no scent could satisfy. Read reviews for descriptions, not instructions to like it. Someone else's favorite can remain their favorite without becoming yours.
Try a meaningful contrast
If the disliked fragrance feels sweet and heavy, compare a drier citrus, green or woody direction. If it feels too sharp, try something softer. A contrast is more informative than buying another highly rated perfume with the same qualities.
Try this before you buy
Write: I disliked ____ because it felt ____. Next I want to try something ____.
